Some frequently asked Questions about University Examinations
| Q | Which room and seat do I go to? |
| A |
Students sitting for examinations on campus at the University are allocated table numbers for each unit. To access your room and seat number you need to log onto the web at http://www.timetables.mq.edu.au/exam/ enter your student number and your individual exam timetable will be displayed. The entire exam timetable will be displayed outside Academic Program Section on Level 4 of the Lincoln Building (C8A). During the exam period another copy will be held in the Student Enquiry Service located on the ground floor of the Lincoln Building. If you are a Distance Student you will be sent a letter outlining the location of your exam centre and any required information. No information relating to the location of examinations at the University will be supplied by telephone |
| Q | Where do I leave my large bag? |
| A |
You may prefer to leave your large bag in your car if you drive to campus. Alternatively, you may leave your bags under security supervision in
Macquarie Theatre will not be open for depositing bags on Wednesday, 1 December. All bags should be deposited in E7B100 on that day. All bags, briefcases or other property are deposited at the owner's risk and the university will not be responsible for loss or damage of any description to property so deposited. Do not leave your bags outside the Examination Room - thieves are active in the University. |
| Q | What can I take into the examination room? |
| A | You must show your ID Card. You may take small money purses or cosmetic bags only. You will need to bring pens, pencils, rulers etc. You may NOT take your mobile phone. Calculators may not be used in examinations except where permission is given in a particular paper. Random checks of calculators being used during an examination may be carried out. Students found to be using illegal calculators may be subject to disciplinary action. |
| Q | Do I supply my own writing paper? |
| A | No. The University supplies Examination Booklets. |
| Q | What time do examinations commence? |
| A | Examination sessions normally commence at 9.30 am and 2.00 pm. When reading time is requested by the Examiner, candidates are admitted to the room ten (10) minutes before the commencement of the examination. You may read the paper during reading time, but may not commence the paper or make notes. |
| Q | Do I need a student ID card to sit for the examination? |
| A | Yes. You are required to show your Macquarie ID card to gain entry to the examination room and to display your ID card with your signature showing on your examination table. Apply for a new one if you have mislaid yours. |
| Q | Can I bring a standard translation dictionary? |
| A | Standard translation dictionaries may be used in examinations except where the use of dictionaries is specifically prohibited. You should check with the Lecturer in Charge of any unit you are undertaking if you wish to bring a dictionary into an examination room. Dictionaries no longer need to be brought to the Academic Program Section prior to the examination. Random checks of dictionaries being used during an examination may be carried out. |
| Q | Can I ask the examination supervisor for clarification of the examination paper? |
| A | If you have any doubts about the wording/accuracy of the examination paper, raise your hand, the supervisor will approach you and you should quietly ask your question. If necessary the supervisor will ask the Academic Program Section to seek clarification from the Examiner. |
| Q | What if I need more paper? |
| A | Raise your hand, a supervisor will approach you, ask quietly for another examination booklet. |
| Q | Where can I see past examination papers? |
| A | Past examination papers, where available can be accessed in the Library or through the Library Home page. |
| Q | What do I do if I am sick on the examination day or during the examination? |
| A | You should complete a Special Consideration Form available from the Student Centre or the Academic Program Section or from the Macquarie Home Page at http://www.reg.mq.edu.au/Forms/APSCon.pdf. This form must be accompanied by a Professional Authority Form or other appropriate documentation. |
